Why Panama is the Perfect Destination for a One-Week Getaway
Hey everyone! It’s Shannon! I just got back from an amazing 9-day trip to Panama, and let me tell you—this place packs a serious punch for a quick getaway. It’s got everything: a flashy modern city, rich history, lush rainforests, and some stunning beaches. Plus, with easy, direct flights into Panama City and most must-visit spots within a few hours’ drive, you’re never wasting time in transit.
Panama City is the perfect place to start. One minute, you’re surrounded by sleek skyscrapers, luxury malls, and buzzing nightlife; the next, you’re wandering the cobblestone streets of Casco Viejo, soaking in its colonial charm, lively plazas, and hidden rooftop bars. A highlight? Visiting the Mola Museum, where a Guna woman taught us the art of mola-making—it’s way harder than it looks!

Of course, no trip is complete without a visit to the Panama Canal—watching massive ships squeeze through the locks at Aguas Claras is mind-blowing. And for a deep dive into Panama’s natural wonders, check out the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and the Biomuseo (designed by Frank Gehry!), where you’ll learn how Panama shaped the world’s biodiversity.
Outside the city, nature lovers, get ready. We hiked through El Valle de Antón, a volcanic crater bursting with waterfalls, sloths, toucans, and even the elusive golden frog.

You can hit both coasts—snorkeling in the San Blas Islands, surfing in Santa Catalina, and diving in Bocas del Toro, where Caribbean and Afro-Panamanian culture brings vibrant music, flavors, and history to life.
The best part? You don’t have to choose between city, jungle, and beach—Panama lets you do it all in one epic trip. Just be sure to save time for a sunset cocktail—it’s the perfect way to end an adventure-filled day! 🍹
